Art Of Timber
Dean Sterman is a local woodworker and resident here in Orangeville, Ontario. He works full-time for the Toronto Conservation Authority as a construction site supervisor, but when he isn't at work, he's either spending time with his family or at the woodshop. His early woodworking journey began in 2014 when he was asked to run a saw mill at work and cut reclaimed ash logs to make countertops for the Kortright Center's gift shop and front desk. Getting to start with such a grand project helped to sink the hooks in, and ever since then, he never stopped building. After that, you would find him cutting and sanding coasters and charcuterie boards on his parent's driveway. From there he decided to set up a little shop in his grandma's unfinished basement, something that resembled Dexter's kill room. Here, the projects got a little bigger and a lot more creative. Then, in 2017, when he moved to Orangeville, he decided it was time to find his own space close to home. That space happened to be right here, where Aloma now resides. For 5 years, he operated a wood shop out of this building, where he continued to try new projects and hone his craft. Within the last year, his operation has now moved up to Shelburne, where he has been renovating an old barn into a new shop and furniture showroom. At the shop, they have over 100 kiln dried slabs available for purchase, a kiln drying service, and a 900 square foot furniture showroom. To date, Dean has made over 125 pieces of furniture.
