Artist Statement

I like to think of my work as functional, small-scale sculptures for the body. Each piece is milled and handcrafted using sterling silver plate and bar.

Hand-cut, filed, joined by solder, the clean-lined elements of my jewellery are both organic and architectural. My work is inspired by man-made structures and the Carolinian forest of Southern Ontario.

Clare Pearson studied Design at Sheridan College, Fibres and Sculpture at Concordia University, and Jewellery at George Brown College. Her sculptural installations have been exhibited at various Ontario galleries including The Art Gallery of Hamilton, McMaster Museum of Art, and Hamilton Artists Inc. Her work has found homes with private collectors worldwide. She references her background in design and three-dimensional art in creating the delicate elements of her jewellery. Drawn to the world of functionality, she has turned her focus to precious metals, creating small scale sculptures for the body. Clare works from her Dundas, Ontario studio for private collectors and galleries.

Caring for your Silver Jewellery

Your cpmetal jewellery is 925 sterling silver.

The number 925 represents the purity level of the silver used in its composition. It is a combination of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (copper and brass), which makes it more resistant to wear and tear.

Please remove your pieces before you bathe and try to prevent products such as perfume, creams and hair styling products from coming into contact with your jewellery. Tarnish is inevitable and will vary according to your skin’s chemical makeup. If left in the open atmosphere, your piece will tarnish much more quickly. Store your jewellery in the box, fabric pouch or zip-top plastic bag that your piece came in at point of purchase.

Wash occasionally with warm water and mild hand soap. You can also use a soft toothbrush to clean the seams or detailed components of the clasps, hinges and links.

Please do not use polishing cloths as this will polish away the intentional matte finish. Instead, try a dip tarnish remover such as Hagerty Silver Clean.
